Our nest has 3 little chickadees!

I'm sure everyone is dying to hear about our sweet little Temperance. It might be best I pick up where we left off, the last OB appointment!

Jeremiah's mom and sister were able to make the cross country road trip with time to spare! They arrived on Sunday evening ready to do everything possible to entice Temperance out of her warm cocoon. After blueberry picking, lots of walking, Mexican food and "time to come out now" demands from Daddy we finally understood she had her mind set to stay in a while longer. By Wednesday we were back at Myrtle Street for another checkup. Nothing had changed and we were all anxious to snuggle #3. After a long discussion about the risk of a C-section (it's a 12% risk vs. an 8% risk from a natural labor) we were scheduled to be induced Thursday at 7 am.

I rechecked our bag and set an alarm.

The next morning we ate breakfast and kissed our heathens goodbye. We left the house very excited but nervous.

We were set up in our labor/delivery room at 7 am with 2 fantastic nurses, Sarah and Cory. I was given the option of starting pitocin, a drug meant to increase contraction strength, or have my water broken. We opted to try the more natural drug free route, not that the image of pain killers wasn't dancing in my head! My oh so favorite doctor(I'm being sarcastic) came in to check my cervix, at that time we were still only 2cm dilated and 50% effaced. I felt like I spent a good 30 or so minutes wetting myself from all the leaking amniotic fluid. Laskey informed us in his annoying way that he would predict our delivery around 5 to 7pm that night... Once they had a decent track of Temperances vitals we were told to take a hike. After 2 hours of making rounds in the tiny maternity wing I was asked to go back to my room for more vitals and to start the pitocin. We had made it to 3cm dilated and 75% effaced on our own but a little stimuli was needed. By 8am I was bed ridden for the rest of the labor and hooked up to my IV. The lab tech took my blood and set up our cord blood donation kit. For awhile Miah and I sat talking and watching netflix (I can't say enough about how much I love it) until he had to run to the bathroom and my contractions had finally become uncomfortable. Sometime around noon I was dying to know how much or little progress we had made. We were up to 5 cm dilated and fully effaced. I wasn't desperate for my pain medication yet but concerned that if I waited it could be dangerous for our baby. At 12:30 our midwife came in and let me know that they were going to modify my pain medication slighty. Instead of one quick full dose through my IV I would receive a half dose for instant relief and the rest in my leg for a slower release. This way there is less risk of depressed lung function for Temperance. As with our older heathens we had a short wait from 5 cm to when I was feeling ready to push. 5 minutes in and 1 push later and we had a perfectly pink and squeaky little girl.

Temperance Ellexis Scott entered our family on July 14, 2011 at 1:35 pm weighing 7 lbs 2.6 oz and 19 1/2 in long.

Her sister and brother came to visit and couldn't stop kissing on her. They both adore her. Matthew gives her more kisses than anyone else in the house even without prompting.

That's it for now. The plan for the rest of the day is to take the kids somewhere special... As soon as I get on the computer instead of this ridiculous iPad you'll get to see my precious babies.

Xoxo, A. Scott

  1. She sounds so tiny! I'm glad the labor wasn't awful (at least you make it sound like it wasn't awful!). I can't wait to see pictures of your new little heathen. :]

  2. She's no where near our smallest, Amie weighed in at 6lbs 5oz. My labor wasn't altogether awful but it was more painful than the other two because I only had time for half of the medication to take effect. Regardless, we made it through and I'm happy to have my family all at home together!

Send me an email at "a [dot] scott1287 [at] gmail [dot] com" with your address and I'll get an announcement out your way!
