crafty mccraftster

I made a really cute calendar for our family this morning. It's been one of those "I'd love to do it but can't pick the right style" type of projects. It just sat on my to-do eventually list waiting for the right inspiration. Well' I found it while surfing the web for other craft ideas not even expecting to find the perfect inspiration. What's better, the site provided the calendar pages as a free pdf. I wanted to mount it to a clipboard that I could decoupage with gorgeous scrapbook papers and cute embelishments. If only I could have found that old clipboard that I know I have somewhere around here. Instead I made my own version out of cardboard and a binder clip. I worked out perfectly although I'm not sure how long it will hold up. If the cardboard tears I'll just make another since it cost only my time. Honestly, I'm pleased with it! I'll show it off later when I can find the original blog post that I used for inspiration!

I found out today that I have one reliable sewing machine if all I need to do is a straight no frills stitch. (I hope I haven't just jinxed myself!) Jeremiah desperately needed his patches sewn onto his uniform 20 minutes before heading out the door. Why he didn't think of this earlier, I don't know but it frustrated me. I finished off the five patches in record time for him to run off to work with a brand spanking new shirt. My stitches were not my best but I choose to blame it on this machine (it was the older of my two Singers.)

Once the daddy monster had left and nap time was over Amie, Matty and I went on a mission to the craft store with our friends. I really enjoy hanging out with Channa! Amie and Camryn enjoyed driving both of us mad. They ran up and down almost every aisle touching things and being busy, busy, busy. Amie had by far the worst behavior I've seen out of her in a long time. I almost miss our daily thrift store trips in Newport News, we worked so hard on how to behave in stores and she had improved so much over the last year. BUT like any learned skill, if it's not used often (we don't go shopping here) it's easily forgotten. I came away with so many great finds at the craft store and I know Channa has a list of crafts she's planning with her new supplies! I think we both probably blew our supply budget for a little while. This was probably one of my least expensive trips out.

We hit McDonalds for supper tonight. I can't imagine a better way to end the day than letting the kids run and play while we sat and talked. Matty devoured all of the ketchup he could find and Amie nibbled at her pickle cheeseburger. Somedays I wonder why she gets her own meal then out of the blue she'll eat everything she asks for and all of mine. Near the end Both boys, Vincent and Matty became slightly grumpy. Poor tired babies! Matty didn't even make it home before he was asleep and I don't think Amie made it through her bedtime story.

I'm so relieved to have a break now! If life were like the movies I'd be in a bubble bath with soft music playing and a glass of wine. Instead I'm retelling my day to cyberspace with my refilled cup of sweet tea and a bag full of goodies that need to be put away before Jeremiah comes home and finds a big mess everywhere.

XOXO, A. Scott
