My husband just left for work and I'm up goofing off in the craft room like always. Only once did he say "Happy Valentines Day." Which, honestly, floats my boat just perfectly! He didn't buy me flowers or candy and we didn't do any sappy stupid traditions. (I kind of have a thing against killing flowers for the sake of making me happy, that just seems cruel... Although tomorrow when the flowers go on sale and they are no longer being destroyed for the holiday, why not get some enjoyment out of someone else's cruelty!)
Well, we did give the kids a small candy treat and we mailed out cards that the kids wrote all over. I'm such a mean mommy, I used the cards as a learning tool for Amie. She has trouble writing letters. (My fault for always restricting her crayon use... I hate scrubbing my walls because the crayons get left out then misused when I've totally forgotten about them.) I doubt Matty learned anything from the scribble session but it was important for me to see him do a set too. Then of course I somehow got it into my head that if the kids did cards I had to make some too. I'd hate to waste postage on cheap dollar tree cards...

The only really special thing we did today was our pizza. Is that not the cutest personal pizza ever! Had it not been for my need for pizza we would have never figured out that we can make our own sauce. This will save us tons of money since homemade pizza has become popular here. We are both really excited, I've found tons of great sauce recipes on allrecipes.com. It's probably my favorite place to search for a new meal idea or to try to piece together ingredients. They have some great tools on their too. You can search recipes by nutrition, ingredients, style, holiday... You name it, it's there! (I'm pretty sure that's the best they were going to allow. Everyone was starving and I'm apparently the only one that wants to ever take pictures.)
Sauce:
1 can tomato paste, 1 1/2 T italian seasoning, 1/2 T garlic salt, 1 1/3 C water, 1/4 C oil. Mix all together. (I'll let you know how well it keeps in the fridge, we have some left over sauce from our pizza's. This should make about 3 full pizza's, maybe more...)
Pizza:

Pillsbury pizza dough, pizza sauce, shredded mozzarella, grated parmesan, toppings. This is so not exact but... Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Grease your pan, roll out the dough and shape (normally I just do a rectangle to fit my cookie sheets) bake aprox. 5 minutes then remove from oven and top with sauce, mozzarella, lightly sprinkle on parmesan and top with topping. (you can also brush on butter and a
little parmesan to the crust for added flavor.) Depending upon how much stuff you throw on top finish baking 8-13 minutes until cheese is melted, crispy at the edges, and toppings are done. (the basic recipe can be found on the pizza dough package but it takes some playing with to get it perfect!)
I promised I'd get to bed early tonight but blogging is making that impossible. How can I give up writing to you when it makes my night alone so much more enjoyable!
Happy V-Day buddies!
XOXO, A. Scott
I make a big, deep dish pizza crush from a recipe I got at bigoven.com. It requires some kneading and whatnot, and it's definitely not for when you're hungry and stuff! You'd want to pre-plan it. I've found that it needs pre-heating too. It's a yeast dough. I'll find the recipe sometime, and send it to you. I may have, already.
